Halloween Spooktacular set for Oct. 27
NEWTON, NC (September 19, 2012) -- If you and your children are looking for some Halloween fun, bring your little ghouls and goblins to the Honey’s Downtown Newton Halloween Spooktacular on Saturday evening, Oct. 27, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Activities will center around the 1924 Courthouse Square, and will include costume contests, games, photo scene, prizes, trick-or-treating at local merchants, and “trunk or treat.”
The Newton Parks & Recreation Department is sponsoring a costume contest, which will begin at 6:00 p.m. The contest will feature two winners, first place and runner-up in each of the following age groups: infant-3, 4-7, 8-12, 13-17, 18-55 and a new age group of 55 and over. There will be two categories for each age group -- original costume and commercial costume.
Area residents are invited to attend Spooktacular for safe trick-or-treating. Local churches, businesses, and civic organizations are encouraged to join in this community event. Grace Reformed United Church of Christ has announced plans to be part of the event, serving free hot dogs and drinks, in cooperation with Peoples Bank which will serve free potato chips.
The goal of the event is to provide an old-fashioned fall festival that is family-friendly, featuring store- front decorations, Halloween-themed inflatables, games, and candy. More than 1,500 pounds of candy was distributed last year. In addition, a fall scene will be available for “take-your-own” photos.
If your church, organization, or business is interested in participating in the “trunk or treat,” call Festival & Events Committee Chairperson Catherine LeFevers at 828-464-8922 (evenings).
