NEWTON, N.C. (June 24, 2016)—Newton welcomed Okazaki Authentic Japanese Cuisine restaurant to the city during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, June 24.
Okazaki is now open and is located at 1901 Northwest Blvd., Suite A, in Plaza Latina.
The restaurant offers Asian-inspired dishes including chicken, steak, seafood and vegetables. Eder Castaneda, who owns the restaurant with his wife, Melissa Kim, said their most popular dish is teriyaki chicken, which is served with a homemade teriyaki sauce.
“We own it, we run it and we work it, so we’re able to offer a more quality product,” Castaneda said of their restaurant.
The couple has operated Osaka Japanese Cuisine in Hickory since 2010, and Castaneda has worked there since 2001. They decided to open a location in Newton to grow their business in order to serve more customers.
“We’ve had customers traveling to Hickory from Newton, Maiden and Lincolnton,” Castaneda said. “This location is an opportunity for us to grow.”
Newton Mayor Pro Tem John Stiver welcomed Okazaki to the city during the ribbon cutting.
“We’re happy to have you here and we wish you success,” Stiver said.
