Newton renewal: Streetscape meeting is Monday, June 15
NEWTON, N.C. – The final public input session for the Downtown Newton Streetscape Project and North Newton Master Plan is at 7 p.m. Monday, June 15, at the Newton Fire Department Headquarters on South Brady Avenue.
Renovations to be discussed include sidewalk makeovers, reworking of downtown parking, and new special features that will make Downtown Newton and North Newton more appealing to residents and visitors.
Plans scheduled to be unveiled this summer will introduce several short-term and long-term redevelopment projects based on input from citizens, businesses and city staff. Developers prefer to invest in cities where a wide range of urban design projects has already been vetted.
Input from Newton’s residents is essential to crafting plans the entire Newton community embraces. You can share your ideas on the website dedicated to the streetscape project.
Allison Platt, of landscape design and urban architectural firm Allison Platt & Associates, will lead the meeting and is creating the plans. Platt has worked on projects around the world, including a tourism development plan for Liverpool, England, and a center city study for Belfast, Northern Ireland. Most of Platt’s work focuses on small- to medium-sized cities. She has worked with cities in North Carolina including Belhaven, Goldsboro, New Bern and Shallotte.
