Third Newton Strategic Plan public forum is Thursday

NEWTON, N.C. – Newton is hosting public forums for the Newton Strategic Plan from 5:30-7 p.m. each Thursday in March in the Gantt Room at City Hall.

The next forum is Thursday, March 19. The topic will be transportation. Experts on those issues will address the audience during the forum.

The first forum focused on economic development. Representatives from the Western Piedmont Council of Governments presented information about trends in population, housing, employment, income, poverty and permit activity. Attendees then divided into groups to list Newton's assets, as well and challenges and solutions to those challenges.

The second forum focused on infrastructure and public facilities. Dusty Wentz, director of the Public Works Department, and Doug Wesson, Electric Utility Division manager, discussed the city's water, sewer and electric systems with attendees.

The Newton Strategic Plan will establish a vision for the future of Newton that allows city staff, council and residents to work together ensure the city’s continued success in the 21st century. Input from Newton’s residents is essential to the plan.
