Light Up the Town Celebration

NEWTON, NC (November 4, 2014) – The holidays are almost here, and residents should make plans now to attend the City of Newton’s annual “Light Up the Town” celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. November 30 on the 1924 Courthouse Square in downtown Newton.

Organized by the Newton Festival & Events Committee, this event officially marks the beginning of the holiday season with the lighting of thousands of lights, followed by a wide variety of activities for everyone including tractor rides, a live nativity scene, pony rides and free hot cocoa.

Light Up The Town kicks off at 5 p.m. as Santa and his elves arrive in an 1892 Sully to the downtown Courthouse square. Afterward, they’ll pose for photos with children inside the courthouse. This year the pictures are sponsored by Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet. Each family will receive a complimentary photo with the option to purchase additional photos.  Several choral groups will be filling the air with seasonal music, while select downtown merchants will offer special treats for visitors. The Vertical Life group will have face painting and balloon animals.  The Elk’s Lodge will be offering free hot cocoa.

The Newton Festival and Events Committee encourages everyone to wear ugly sweaters, elf hats, santa outfits, angel wings…. anything festive! Oh and watch out for the Grinch! We got word from Santa that he is planning to show up and try to steal some presents!
