Harris wins July Yard of the Month award

NEWTON, NC – The Newton Appearance Commission recognized Larry Harris of West Sixth Street circle, honoring him with the July “Yard of the Month” award.

Harris said he doesn’t spend much time gardening, but he does keep up with his yard every day. He has resided at the home for 18 years and his landscaping projects span from the front yard to the back.

“Flowering plants are my favorite. I love crepe myrtles, but they’re not quite out yet because I’ve been cutting this year,” Harris said. His yard also includes begonias, yellow bells and yarrows.

The City of Newton expresses its congratulations to Larry Harris for being selected for the July 2014 “Yard of the Month” award.

The Newton Appearance Commission recognizes a “Yard of the Month” from May to August based upon nominations from the community. Selection is based on attractive, well-maintained landscaping and overall aesthetics. For more information, contact the Newton Recreation Department at (828) 695-4317 or visit
