Smyres win June "Yard of the Month" award

NEWTON, NC – The Newton Appearance Commission recognized Bill and Patricia Smyre of East 23rd Street, honoring them with the June “Yard of the Month” award.

“It’s just something we’ve done all our lives,” Bill Smyre said. “This past year, in the fall I put out 360 pansy plants and 500 tulip bulbs.”

Patricia Smyre echoed his sentiment and said, “Gardening is something we love to do.”

The City of Newton expresses its congratulations to Bill and Patricia Smyre for being selected for the June 2014 “Yard of the Month” award.

The Newton Appearance Commission recognizes a “Yard of the Month” from May to August based upon nominations from the community. Selection is based on attractive, well-maintained landscaping and overall aesthetics.
