Take a Kid Fishing Day on June 14

NEWTON, NC – Cast a reel and catch fish and a fun time with your family at the Newton Recreation Department’s annual Take a Kid Fishing Day from 9 a.m. to noon June 14 at Herman’s Fish Lake, 1954 Grandview Drive. This event is free and open to the public.

The event is open to children from 3- to 17-years-old. Children younger than 12 years must be accompanied by an adult. Children must bring their own rod and reel. Prizes categories are “largest fish,” “most fish,” “smallest fish,” and “most unusual catch of the day.” Additional prize drawings will occur every 15 minutes.

This is also sponsored by Academy Sports+Outdoors, Herman’s Fish Lake, Piedmont Bait & Tackle and Balls Creek Bait and Tackle in Newton.

After the event, head to the Newton Rec Pool, which opens June 14 for the season. Public swimming is available from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $1 for children up to age 5 years, $2 for adults 62 and older, $3 for children ages 6 to 17 and $4 for adults ages 18 to 61.
