Cars galore in downtown Newton on May 17

NEWTON, NC – Two different car shows are cruisin’ into Newton on Saturday, May 17, so head downtown to the 1924 Courthouse Square and enjoy cars from across the decades. The Newton-Conover Rotary Club starts the day at 9 a.m. with its first annual car show, and the Newton Festival and Events Committee’s Cruisin’ Newton series kicks off for the summer beginning at 4 p.m.

Registration for the Newton-Conover Rotary Club Car Show runs from 9 a.m. until noon and judging begins as cars are ready. Awards will be announced at 3 p.m. Plaques and trophies will be awarded for Best of Show, Club Participation, Newton-Conover Rotary President’s Choice, Top 50, Sponsors Choice, Best Muscle Car ’64-’73 and Best Late Model ’79-Current.

Other activities include 50/50 tickets, music all day, kids’ inflatables, a poker walk, cake walk, raffle, silent auction and door prizes. Pre-register by May 12 or register the day of the show. For more information, contact Scott Gilleland at 828-461-2180.

The Cruisin’ Newton series features pre-1979 and late model American muscle cars beginning at 4 p.m. the third Saturday of the month through October, except in August. Bring the whole family for a good time and enjoy the live music which begins at 6 p.m. Local jazz fusion band Bodichita will perform on May 17.
