Officer Carolyn Deal retires after 20 years of service

NEWTON, NC (Feb. 4, 2014) – The City of Newton bid farewell at the end of January to long serving police officer Carolyn Deal, who dedicated 20 years of her career to the City of Newton. Deal joined the Newton Police Department in October 1993 as a Police Officer I. In 1994, she was promoted to Police Officer II and in 1996 she became a Master Police Officer.

Newton Police Chief Don Brown said, “I trained Carolyn when she came here, and she’s passed along her knowledge. That’s what you do, you teach one another and support one another…We’re not losing a part of the family today, she’s just moving out of the house.”

Brown presented Deal with her service badge, duty weapon and a framed photo, all of which recognized her years of service to the Newton Police Department and community.

“I think this is just a great department, and I’m so proud to have been one of you,” Deal said. “In my heart, I’ll always be one of you. I cannot just lay that badge down and say I’m gone from this. I will carry it with me, and I will carry it proudly. When I say I’m a Newton police officer, I have a smile on my face.”
