NEWTON, NC (October 17, 2013) – Encourage your children to participate in sports and foster healthy behaviors by registering them for youth basketball and indoor soccer through the Newton Parks and Recreation Department. The Recreation Department and Academy Sports+Outdoors are sponsoring an on-site registration drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 2 at Academy Sports+Outdoors, 2162 US 70 SE, Hickory.
To be eligible for participation, basketball players must be at least 4 years old and cannot turn 16 before Aug. 31 of the current year.
Youth basketball leagues include: Mighty Mites (co-ed), ages 4-6; Bantam Boys, ages 7-8; Bantam Girls, ages 7-9; Midget Boys, ages 9-10; Midget Girls, ages 10-12; Little Boys, ages 11-12; Junior Boys, ages 13-16; and Junior Girls, ages 13-16.
To be eligible for participation, indoor co-ed soccer players must be 7 years old, and cannot turn 16 before Oct. 15 of the current year.
Youth co-ed indoor soccer leagues include: Bantam (ages 7-8), Midget (ages 9-10), Little (ages 11-12) and Junior (13-16).
To register for either youth sport, each child must meet the following requirements: submit a completed registration card signed by parent/guardian; have a birth certificate on file with the recreation department; have emergency medical treatment and consent forms on file and notarized; have a signed parental code of ethics on file; if applicable, pay a $30 non-resident fee (non-refundable) and return any loaned equipment from a previous sport.For more information, contact the Newton Parks & Recreation Department at 828-695-4317.
