Once Upon a Time Books holds ribbon cutting

NEWTON, NC (Aug. 12, 2013) – A new children’s bookstore stocking local authors celebrated its grand opening Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Once Upon a Time – A Unique Children’s Bookstore and More is located at 24 East First St.

“I think children’s books are great for the community,” bookstore owner Allison Cox said. “I thought it would be a great idea to include local authors that sometimes we don’t see at a Barnes and Noble or a Target or a Wal-Mart, so we have a lot of self-published books here.”

Newton Mayor Anne P. Stedman lauded Cox’s support for the local economy.

“I appreciate your effort to buy local and shop local,” Stedman said. “You epitomize that, and you are bringing a much needed children’s bookstore to downtown Newton.”

In addition to books and children’s games, Once Upon a Time also offers crafts and programming opportunities such as Create a Book, Paint-a-Doodle and Create a Cottage events. The store will host children’s authors as well.
