NEWTON, NC (July 29, 2013) -- House Bill 1160, which the General Assembly enacted in July 1999, requires municipalities, animal operations, industries and others who operate waste handling systems to issue news releases when a waste spill of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters.
In accordance with that regulation, the following news release has been prepared and issued to media in Catawba County:
The City of Newton experienced a sanitary sewer overflows on July 27, 2013 due to heavy rainfall: 3,340 gallons at 210 N. Ashe Ave. into Hildebran Creek (Anthony Creek).
