NEWTON, NC (June 3, 2013) – Get your taste buds abuzz and check out the newest business in downtown Newton. Carolina Vines, 19 N. College Ave., held a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday as part of its grand-opening celebration.
“We’re thrilled to have (owners) Michael, Twyla and Dennis and Carolina Vines,” Mayor Anne P. Stedman said at the ribbon cutting ceremony. “I feel sure that you’re going to be a busy place, and we welcome you to downtown Newton.”
Carolina Vines is a full-service beverage establishment serving fine wines by the glass and assorted premium bottled beers. The wine bar will host complimentary wine tastings and educational tastings. The menu offers an exciting array of light appetizers. Carolina Vines is owned by Dennis Baucom, Twyla Deese and Michael Waltuch.
“We’re excited to be here in downtown Newton,” Waltuch said. “We feel like we can bring some of our expertise and knowledge about pairings, varietals and the wine world to the area.”
Deese said, “It was a challenging project that we could not have done without the City of Newton. We’re grateful to have (North Carolina Main Street Office Grant Administrator) Ben Murphrey with us, who was certainly a catalyst for this venture.”
Deese, whose family has roots in Newton, said, the building holds historical value to her and her family. The decision to open up a wine bar was “all about pleasure and enjoyment for others.”
Carolina Vines is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 828-743-8463.
