NEWTON, NC (May 16, 2013) – Jenkins Funeral Home, 4081 Startown Road, celebrated on Thursday the opening of its new pavilion with a ribbon cutting ceremony with the City of Newton and Catawba County Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor Anne P. Stedman said, “I want to thank you for your commitment to Newton. You’ve been a good citizen and a good steward.”
The new outdoor pavilion features a small kitchen, restrooms and ceiling fans and is available to families after events at the funeral home, Carl Jenkins, owner of Jenkins Funeral Home, said.
Jenkins said the funeral home often works with traditional Hmong families and through experience found the need for a pavilion-type structure.
“We’ve learned over the years what their needs are,” Jenkins said. “We said let’s just invest in that community and their needs and build a permanent structure, and it could be used by all families. And it has been.”
The space also is available to churches and for family reunions, Jenkins said. The funeral home is undergoing several renovations, including the construction of a drive-thru entrance and new visitation rooms.
