Take A Kid Fishing Day on June 15

NEWTON, NC (April 17, 2013) – If you and your children love to fish, this event is for you. The 2013 Take-A-Kid Fishing Day is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 15 at Herman’sFish Lake, 1954 Grandview Drive, Newton. The public is invited to enjoy this family day of fun and fishing.

The event, sponsored by the Newton Parks and Recreation Department, Academy Sports+Outdoors, Herman’s Fish Lake, Piedmont Bait & Tackle and Balls Creek Bait and Tackle in Newton is open to all children ages 3–17. Any child age 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult to be eligible to participate.

Prizes will be awarded for “largest fish,” “most fish,” “smallest fish” and “most unusual catch of the day.” Additional prize drawings will be held every 15 minutes. Children must bring their own rod and reel.

Participants may register from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1 at Academy Sports+Outdoors, 2162 U.S. 70, Hickory, or the morning of the event by 8:30 a.m. at Herman’s Fish Lake.
