NEWTON, NC (March 1, 2013) – The “highly anticipated” Marie and Twannette’s Bakery and Café, 31 N. College Ave., held a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday to celebrate its upcoming grand opening.
Owned by sisters Teresa Blalock and Judy Early, the bakery and café offers “Cakes, Confections and Curiousities.” Baked goods include cakes, cake pops, cookies, muffins and more. The café also will offer cold-cut sandwiches featuring Boar’s Head meats, salads and more.
Marie and Twannette’s will host the grand opening celebration from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 8 and 9. Door prizes, deli and dessert samples and free coffee will be available.
“We’re so excited to be opening the bakery here. We’ve been working for nine months,” Blalock said. “We’re happy to be part of downtown Newton, and we want to help revitalize downtown Newton.”
Newton Mayor Anne P. Stedman said, “It’s been a long awaited, highly anticipated moment. We are excited to have you, and I hope you have a long and prosperous career in Newton.”
Early said the new business is a perfect merger between her already existing cake business and her sister’s desire to open up a café. The concept evolved as the sisters looked for a home for their bakery and café, and they ultimately chose to locate in Newton.
Marie and Twannette’s will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 828-465-0052.
