"Tai Chi for Seniors" offered in January

NEWTON, NC (Dec. 19, 2012) – The Newton Parks & Recreation Department and the Catawba County Council on Aging will offer “Tai Chi for Seniors” in January for a suggested donation of $3 per class to those ages 55 and over.

The class will be held at the Newton Recreation Center from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Fridays beginning Jan. 4 and ending Jan. 25. Instructor Carol Feezell brings more than 10 years of experience in teaching tai chi.

Exercise is vital to remaining healthy throughout the many stages of life, and at no time is it more important than when one begins to experience the natural degeneration of joints, bones and muscles that come with aging.

Tai chi is an ideal exercise that is gentle on the joints, with its slow movements gradually increasing strength and improving balance. Deep breathing promotes relaxation and creates a calmness that in turn lowers stress levels.
