Newton Recreation Dept. announces spring classes

Newton (December 18, 2012) - The Newton Parks and Recreation Department and Catawba Valley Community College are proud to present the following classes that are sure to interest you or someone you know. Classes will be held at the Newton Recreation Center on the lower level.

Quilting: Back to the Basics – This course is designed for beginner to intermediate students and will start with the basics. Participants decide which quilt and what pattern to make. The fee for the class is $40 per person. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays, March 4 to April 29 (Note: class will not be held April 1 due to the Easter Holiday). Instructor: Mary Ann Parkhurst.

Quilting: Back to the Basics Workshop – This is a continuation of the Back to the Basics Quilting Course. The fee for the class is $20.00 per person.  The class will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays, May 6 to June 3 (Note: class will not be held May 27 due to the Memorial Day Holiday). Instructor: Mary Ann Parkhurst.

Needle Fun – This course instructs needle crafters of all skill levels. Variety is the spice of life in this class as participants choose which needle to use – it could be a knitting needle, an embroidery needle, or even a crochet hook. The fee for the class is $40 per person. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, March 5 to April 30 (Note: class will not be held April 2 due to the Easter Holiday). Instructor: Mary Ann Parkhurst.

Needle Fun Workshop – This course is a continuation of the Needle Fun Class. The fee for this class is $20.00 per person. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, May 7 to May 28. Instructor: Mary Ann Parkhurst.

Line Dancing – A Fun Way to Exercise – Have you ever watched people line dance and wished you could do it too? Come learn some popular line dances while getting a great cardio workout. Line dancing can be done to a wide variety of music from oldies to jazz to country. The fee for the class is $55.00 per person. No partners are needed. The class will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, February 12 to March 12. Instructor: Kristi Marlow.

Bird & Duck Carving – Learn the process of taking a block of wood and carving, sanding and painting it into a life-like bird or duck. The fee for the class is $40.00 per person. The first session will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, January 16 to March 6. The second session will be held at the same time Wednesdays, March 20 to May 8. Instructor: Gene Parham.
