Julie Chang named new Public Information Officer in Newton
NEWTON, NC (November 29, 2012) – The City of Newton has hired Julie Chang as the new Public Information Officer for the City of Newton. Ms. Chang was previously employed with the Morganton News Herald for the past five years, with two years of that time covering governmental meetings such as Burke County Commissioners, and the city council meetings of the municipalities of Morganton, Connelly Springs, Drexel, Hildebran, Valdese, and Rutherford College.
Ms. Chang expressed her enthusiasm to begin her career in Newton. "I'm excited to join the City of Newton's team of great employees. I'm looking forward to meeting all city residents and employees and providing any information they may need. And I hope I can help the city continue to grow economically while preserving its small town charm."
City Manager Todd Clark said the new Public Information Officer met all of the qualifications he was seeking in a candidate. Clark said he was looking for someone with extensive experience writing news stories as well as someone capable of continuing efforts the City has made to communicate with the public through social media and video productions. Clark said “Julie’s experience as a reporter with the Morganton News Herald, and her experience covering governmental meetings were instrumental in making the decision.”
Chang will begin her duties on December 10, 2012, with a salary of $40,788.80. Clark says she’ll hit the ground running to familiarize herself with the office and covering stories to keep our citizens informed of what is happening in the City.
Ms. Chang is a graduate of Freedom High School and holds a B.A. in classical studies from Dartmouth College.
