2012 Holiday Tour of Homes

Newton-Conover Ed Foundation Holiday Tour of Homes, A Lifetime of Traditions.

The Newton-Conover Education Foundation, Inc. announces the details of their 2012 Holiday Tour of Homes, presented by sponsor Elliott Design.  The annual holiday home tour is the eleventh installment of this Catawba County tradition and one of the non-profit organization’s major fund-raisers.  The event generates financial support for the Foundation’s projects, benefiting the Newton-Conover School System through efforts such as teacher grants and college scholarships for graduating students.

This year the tour will take on a totally different flavor thanks to a partnering between the Ed Foundation and tour host Abernethy Laurels.  "We are excited to partner with Abernethy Laurels for this year's Tour of Homes," said Newton Conover Education Foundation Chair Michael Willard. "United Church Home Services and Abernethy Laurels have always been great supporters of this community, and we are excited to have them as part of Newton-Conover Education Foundation's efforts to help the Newton-Conover City Schools System."  Responding to concerns about the travel distance between the homes showcased on previous tours, the Holiday Tour of Homes Committee began a push last year to narrow the event venue to specific neighborhoods in either Newton or Conover. This year Abernethy Laurel’s Village is the destination, highlighting lifetimes of holiday traditions with a tour of five residences and the stately United Church Home Services, Inc. Corporate Headquarters, all beautifully decorated for the holidays.

Tour committee chairman Tim S. Elliott says “Locating the tour at Abernethy Laurels provides us with unique opportunities offered through the very generous staff at UCHS and Abernethy.  Everything will be in very close proximity, and the use of Abernethy Laurel’s new Community Center will create a richer experience for tour-goers.”  As a result of this partnering, this year’s event is a park and ride; simply arrive at the Community Center and from there you can enjoy the luxury of regularly circling shuttle buses that will drop you off at each tour location.  The Village Bistro is located at the Center; they will be selling throughout the event a special menu of seasonal food delights accompanied by live piano concerts of popular holiday music.  A first for this year will be the NCEF Holiday Market, a shopping experience featuring select, fine retailers from the area and the Abernethy Laurel's Gift Shop.  The Holiday Market will be located at the Community Center’s Spirit Place, creating a relaxed, one-stop gift buying experience enhanced by the holiday piano music just outside the entrance.  Each ticket holder will again be automatically entered into the popular Holiday Tour Raffle, including great prizes donated by area businesses.
One of the more exciting aspects of the tour is a very exclusive visit to the beautiful UCHS Corporate Office, located in the white, Colonial-style home that is visible as you pass Abernethy Laurels on Highway 16. Even the home-owners on the tour have not seen the inside, and are excited to get the chance to view it for the first time.  The UCHS staff will decorate it especially for the event, and tour-goers will be greeted there by carolers singing holiday favorites.

The one-night tour date is Thursday, December 13 from 5 – 8:30 PM, with an inclement weather date of Monday, December 17 from 5 – 8:30 PM.  The tax-deductible tickets are $15 each and will go on sale at area locations and the N-C City Schools Administrative Office in late October.  Right now, and for the first time, you may purchase tickets using credit and debit cards via phone orders taken through tour sponsor Elliott Design.  Monday through Friday you may place your orders by calling 828.465.3738 between the hours of 1 PM and 5 PM.
