“Tour of Churches” planned Dec. 9 in Newton
NEWTON, NC (September 20, 2012) – On December 9, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., a number of churches in the Newton area will welcome the community during the Christmas season to drop in for an open house tour of their beautiful, historical sanctuaries. Special activities are being planned at each of the churches during the tour.
Churches included in the tour include: Abernethy Memorial United Methodist, Calvary Baptist, Beth Eden Lutheran, Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, First United Methodist, First Presbyterian, and Grace Reformed United Church of Christ. The tour will also include stops at The Corner Table and Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministry (ECCCM), which will receive all donations from the tour.
Within the City of Newton area, there are a number of beautiful churches listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and these churches have much history to share and responsibility of caring for a historical landmark. The National Register of Historic Places is a list of properties that are “significant in American history, architecture, archaeology, and culture."
