Trees donated to City

NEWTON, NC (June 28, 2012) -- The City of Newton expresses its appreciation to Harvey and Jeanette Coulter of Maiden Nursery for their generous donation of 40 Japanese maple trees, ranging in height from 15 to 20 feet.

The City planted 15 trees at Southside Park, and distributed the remainder of the trees to Catawba County and to the Newton-Conover City School System.

Doyle Wyant, Landscape Crew Leader, coordinated the donation with Maiden Nursery and helped distribute the trees. He estimates that the retail value of the 40 trees at $10,000 to $12,000.

Newton is proud to be a “Tree City USA” community for the second year in a row, and is thankful for this significant donation to continue its beautification efforts.
