Be Cautious of Independent Water Testing
NEWTON, NC (Jan. 12, 2018)—The city of Newton is alerting residents to be cautious of independent water testing programs.
Some Newton residents have reported receiving a testing kit in the mail that asks them to return samples of their water and answer a series of questions including the source of their water and whether they use a filtration device. The mailing appears to come from an independent company that is not affiliated with the city of Newton.
Any concerns about water quality should be directed to the Newton Public Works and Utilities Department by calling 828-465-7460.
The Newton Water Treatment Plant has been honored for 14 consecutive years with the Area-Wide Optimization Program Award for surpassing federal and state drinking water standards. Last year, Newton was one of only five water treatment facilities in the state recognized for receiving the award for 10 or more consecutive years.
