Newton Police Deliver Thanksgiving Meals

NEWTON, NC (Nov. 22, 2017) - Members of the Newton Police Department fanned out across the city to deliver Thanksgiving meals to senior citizens on the day before Thanksgiving.
Vivian Abernethey
The Hen & Egg, located at 204 North College Ave., prepared the meals. Included in each meal was turkey, green beans, potatoes and pumpkin pie. The meal delivery program was coordinated by Newton Police Chaplin Reverend Todd Rudisill. The meals were paid for by members of the Newton Police Department and members of the community.

Meals were delivered to the seniors on the police department's senior citizen contact list. Each morning, members of the Newton Police Department contact seniors on the list to ensure they are safe and healthy. Seniors are often asked if they have eaten and if there is anything they need for the day. If a senior needs assistance with something that cannot be handled via the telephone, officers respond to their residence to assist. Often times, daily contact with police personnel is the only contact seniors have with other people.

If you would like to join the Newton Police Department’s call list, call 828-465-7430 and ask to speak with the records department.
