Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection
NEWTON, NC (Oct. 3, 2017)—Catawba County will host the Residential Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics One-Day Collection Event from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Winkler Park, home of the L.P. Frans Stadium, 2500 Clement Blvd. NW, Hickory.
The event is free of charge to citizens of Catawba County and will be held rain or shine.
Plastic bag recycling will be provided by Keep Catawba County Beautiful in celebration of America Recycles Day. The first 200 people who bring plastic bags to recycle will receive a reusable bag.
A partial list of the items accepted includes: household cleaners, paint products, automotive products, pesticides, fertilizers, kerosene, batteries, pool chemicals, mercury thermometers, computer monitors, televisions, VCRs, stereos, cellphones, pagers, calculators, fax machines, and microwaves. Additional items will also be accepted; for more information, call 828-465-8217.
Items that will not be accepted include: tires; medication; appliances; lawn mowers; household garbage; explosives; radioactive, biologically active, dioxin related or infectious waste; unknown gases or chemicals; and televisions with internal parts removed.
Catawba County contracts with electronics recycling companies that are EPA R2 and/or e-Steward Certified to ensure proper handling and security of electronic waste collected. Other vendors that may set up outside the event are not associated with Catawba County.
The event is sponsored by Catawba County Utilities and Engineering, City of Hickory, Keep Catawba County Beautiful, and the N.C. State Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
