The Newton Park and Recreation Department strives to enhance the quality of life to all citizens by providing a diverse and comprehensive program of recreational, educational, and cultural leisure opportunities. These services aim to assist in the growth of the community through our open spaces, parks, and recreational facilities while contributing to the citizens' physical, social, and emotional well being through all aspects of life.

A full-time year-round recreation department offers programs for both young and old alike. Many activities are coordinated with local service organizations and Catawba Valley Community College. Baseball, football, softball, tennis, and swimming are a few of the organized activities provided by the City's recreation department.

The Recreation Department also maintains three cemeteries within Newton; Eastside, Central, and the new Southside Cemeteries.  Currently, Eastside has no plots available.  Central and Southside have plots available for residents and non-residents alike.

During the last year, Newton has invested in improvements to the pool located at the main Newton Recreation Center.  Old and young alike can enjoy all the water fun available during the summer session.  The addition of a new slide apparatus has only expanded the fun, with more improvements planned.
