Cemeteries

The City currently maintains three cemeteries, within the Newton City Limits, Eastview, Central and Southside.  The three cemeteries have a combined total of 26 acres (Eastview – 12 acres, Central – 4 acres and Southside - 10 acres) with approximately 14,000 gravesites.  

The Eastview Cemetery has no gravesites for sale.  Central has approximately 600 remaining graves, and Southside has 5,000 graves.

The cemeteries are maintained by the Parks and Recreation Department Community Appearance Division. They oversee the organization and ground care of both cemeteries and the Living Tree Memorial Program and parks and downtown beautification of downtown and parks.

Purchasing of grave lots and grave openings are conducted at Newton Parks and Recreation Department.

Annual Spring Cemetery Cleanup planned March 22-26
Eastview, Central and Southside Cemeteries

  • Spring Clean-up the week of March 22nd - March 26th, 2010.
     

  • Remove all weathered or out-of-season flower arrangements.
     

  • All new flowers must be displayed in permanent vases attached to markers.
     

  • Any toy, trinket, vase, jar, tin can or anything, which is determined unsightly or undesirable by the City, shall be removed.

The City of Newton along with the Community Appearance Office, a division of the Newton Parks and Recreation Department, are proud to announce the opening of the new Southside Cemetery on May 16, 2005. The Cemetery is located on Hwy. 321 Business South.

Persons desiring to purchase a lot in the cemetery shall do so at the Cemetery Office located in the Newton Recreation Center at 23 South Brady Avenue. Lots will be available in section eight. This section will allow upright monuments or flat markers.


Central Cemetery

Central is located on South Ervin and Stadium Avenues with an entrance on 'B' Street.
