Tree Trimming
Policy
The City of Newton Electric Division
trims tree limbs threatening city electrical facilities.
All trimming, pruning, and cutting is performed using
the latest standards and approved methods to minimize
the detrimental impact to the tree.

The City uses
the following guidelines when trimming trees:
-
All tree trimming activities will
focus on a four to five year re-trimming cycle where
possible using established sound principles of tree
care. Although public safety and preservation of
City property is a primary goal, tree health and
area aesthetic considerations will impact management
decisions.
-
Trees and vegetation shall be trimmed
with a goal of obtaining a minimum of four years
clearance. Where trees have been "rounded over" or
otherwise improperly trimmed for years and necessary
clearances cannot be obtained without severely trimming
the tree, reasonable effort will be made by the City to
obtain customer authorization to remove the tree.
-
All wood and brush produced as a direct
product of City tree trimming operations shall be
disposed of within a responsible period of time. Wood
larger than four inches should be cut into approximately
two foot lengths and upon request of the customer, left
on site. Should the customer not request the wood, it
will be removed to an appropriate disposal site.
-
Stumps remaining after removal of tree (s)
located in an urban setting with aesthetic considerations
evident will be removed by grinding so that the top of the
stump is six inches below grade. All grindings will be
removed and the hole filled with suitable topsoil. Removal
of stumps from undeveloped urban or rural properties will be
the sole responsibility of the owner.
