Criminal Investigations Division

Mission

The mission of the Criminal Investigation Unit is to provide assistance to the Patrol Unit by conducting criminal investigations of serious crimes, of specific felonies and patterns of misdemeanors, and of crimes requiring extensive follow-up investigations or specialized skills. Additionally, this unit shall provide the Chief with current information on the progress of noteworthy investigations.

CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS DIVISION COMMANDER

LT. L. S. MARTIN is a twenty plus year veteran of the Newton Police Department and Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division.  Prior to joining investigations, Lt. Martin served as Sergeant for "C" Platoon on road patrol.  Lt. Martin was promoted to the position of Lieutenant shortly after moving to investigations.  Lt. Martin holds a degree in Criminal Justice and the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate.  He is also a Law Enforcement Instructor holding specialty instructor certification in several areas, teaching at several area community colleges.  Lt. Martin also holds prior military experience in the United States Army.
