The City of Newton Fire Department protects a
population of 19,200 persons. The department serves 38.3 square miles
of area. 13 square miles are located within the City limits and 25.3
square miles of area is located in rural Catawba County and is
protected under contract.

For the year 2006 the
department maintained an average response time of 3 minutes and 50
seconds.
The Fire Prevention Bureau within the City of Newton Fire
Department is responsible for Fire Inspections, Fire Prevention, and
Fire Investigations.
In 2006 the bureau conducted 821 Inspections in businesses,
industries and commercial facilities. The bureau also conducted
approximately 385 Fire Prevention programs for schools, daycares and
other organizations.
