Street Maintenance

The Street Maintenance Division maintains approximately 77 miles of city streets. The staff is divided into two teams, one team completes utility cuts and concrete repairs, while the other performs maintenance on roadways.

Street Construction/ Maintenance

Street Construction and Maintenance consist of the following components:

  • Repairing utility cuts

  • Repairing natural potholespaving

  • Cutting and trimming trees, limbs, and overgrowth

  • Removing obstructions from roadway causing danger to traffic such as trees, flooding, or debris from accidents.

  • Grading, scraping, and applying gravel to unpaved streets.

  • Sidewalk repair

Street Sweeping

The street sweeping truck runs on a scheduled route on all curb and gutter streets. The Downtown area is swept on a weekly basis. The street washing process immediately follows the street sweeping process. These trucks operate on a 5-day a week basis year round except in periods of inclement weather.

Right-of-Way Mowing

Crews mow during periods of warm weather to control weeds, grass and overgrowth. Two mowing tractors run scheduled routes in order to maintain the city's appearance and safety.

Leaf Collection

Leaf collection begins in late October and ends in January. Leaves should be raked out to the curb (not in the street) and they will be collected when the vacuum truck is in your area. Please do not put the leaves in ditches that the vacuum hose can not reach or mix any limbs, garbage, or other debris in the leaves. If there are other items mixed with the leaves they may go uncollected. Collection times may vary, but on average leaves should be collected about every two weeks.
