 The City of Newton Fire Department protects a population of 19,200 persons. The department serves 38.3 square miles of area. 13 square miles are located within the City limits and 25.3 square miles of area is located in rural Catawba County and is protected under contract.


During 2011 the department responded to approximately 869 emergency incidents. Those calls to service are broken down into six categories.

For the year 2011 the department maintained an average response time of 4 minutes and 51 seconds.

The Fire Prevention Bureau within the City of Newton Fire Department is responsible for Fire Inspections, Fire Prevention, and Fire Investigations.

In 2011 the bureau conducted 478 Inspections in businesses, industries and commercial facilities. The bureau also conducted approximately 231 Fire Prevention programs for schools, daycares and other organizations.
