 The City of Newton Fire Department protects a population of 19,200 persons. The department serves 38.3 square miles of area. 13 square miles are located within the City limits and 25.3 square miles of area is located in rural Catawba County and is protected under contract.



During 2017, the department responded to approximately 1861 emergency incidents. Those calls to service are broken down into six categories.

For the year 2017, the department maintained an average response time of 4 minutes and 16 seconds.

The Fire Prevention Bureau within the City of Newton Fire Department is responsible for Fire Inspections, Fire Prevention, and Fire Investigations.

In 2017, the bureau conducted 1350 inspections in businesses, industries and commercial facilities. The bureau also conducted approximately 18 Fire Prevention programs for schools, daycares and other organizations.
