John Cilley Web

John Cilley IV is the City Attorney for the City of Newton.

The Newton City Council appointed him to the position on Jan. 8, 2013.

A native of Newton, Cilley graduated from Newton-Conover High School in 1978. He is a 1982 graduate of Georgetown University, where he earned a bachelor's in science in foreign service.

In 1985, Cilley obtained his juris doctorate degree from Wake Forest University. Afterward, he returned to Newton and worked as an associate at Waddell, Mullinax and Childs. He is current a partner at Corne & Cilley, PLLC.

Cilley has served by appointment on the North Carolina Employment Security Commission,  N.C. Board of Ethics and as a trustee of the N.C. Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System and Local Government Employees Retirement System.
