The City of Newton is the County Seat of Catawba County, positioned in the triangle formed by Asheville, Winston-Salem, and Charlotte.  The gently rolling terrain blends into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains offering residents and visitors an abundance of scenic attractions, a wealth of recreational options, and a temperate climate with four seasons that are as distinct as they are mild.

    Newton Downtown Historic District listed in National Register of Historic Places
    The Newton Downtown Historic District has been officially listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service. Its inclusion in this prestigious national list was announced on May 11 by the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office, which administers the National Register program in the state.

    Newton recognized as "Tree City USA" community at Arbor Day Celebration
    The City of Newton held its annual Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, April 21 at First United Methodist Church in Newton. At the ceremony, Newton was recognized for being named a "Tree City USA" community for the second year in a row.

    Chavez receives 2012 Unity Award
    Javier Chavez was named as the recipient of Newton's 2012 Unity Award. The prestigious award was presented at the City's annual Unity Day Celebration on Saturday, April 28 at Southside Park.

    Citywide Yard Sale scheduled for May 19 at Southside Park
    If you're planning a yard sale this spring, your best opportunity is the City of Newton's Citywide Yard Sale. The seventh annual event, sponsored by the Festival & Events Committee, is scheduled for Saturday, May 19, from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Southside Park.
