The City of Newton is the County Seat of Catawba County, positioned in the triangle formed by Asheville, Winston-Salem, and Charlotte.  The gently rolling terrain blends into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains offering residents and visitors an abundance of scenic attractions, a wealth of recreational options, and a temperate climate with four seasons that are as distinct as they are mild.

    Senior Citizens Christmas Dance to be held Thursday, December 4th
    The Newton Recreation Department is sponsoring its annual Senior Citizens Christmas Dance for those age 55 and older on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on the lower level of the Newton Recreation Department.  Music will be provided by "Billy Rose," a variety band with more than 25 years of experience.

    Light Up the Town Celebration
    The holidays are almost here, and residents should make plans now to attend the City of Newton's annual "Light Up the Town" celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. November 30 on the 1924 Courthouse Square in downtown Newton.

    Newton Rec sponsoring canned food drive
    The Newton Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a canned food drive to benefit the Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministry (ECCCM) Hunger Prevention Program. The campaign will run from Nov. 3 to Dec. 21.
